This pattern is an adaptation of the Field & Forest Dress found in my book, The Modern Natural Dyer. When researching ancient textiles for that book, I was captivated by boxy, angular tunics popular throughout time. This classic style worn for thousands of years is zero waste -- it uses nearly every bit of the fabric it’s cut from. And it fits a wide variety of body types.

I originally created the Field & Forest Dress as a way to teach you how to naturally dye garments and to give you the skills and confidence to dye and sew your own wardrobe. As this dress is made from rectangular pieces of fabric, it is easy to modify.

To make it: 

Larger, buy double the fabric, and add width to each of the panels. 
Smaller, purchase the same amount of fabric as listed, and trim the panels down. 
Shorter, purchase the length of fabric for the length you want. A shirt would be cute! 
Longer, purchase the length of fabric for the length you want and add slits to the side, so you can walk easily.
